Right now, undrafted rookie Quinn Nordin is the only kicker on the Patriots' active roster, but that could potentially change by Sunday with the rules of elevating players from the practice squad.
Veteran Nick Folk is on it and could be one of the two players elevated to the game-day roster for Sunday's opener.
"I think there's a lot of merit to it," Bill Belichick said Friday when asked about it being a possibility. "That's why he's on the practice squad, as all the players are. With the two standard activations that teams are allowed to have, that's a lot different than it was going back to '19 where it was a whole different set of rules. So yeah, there's certainly more flexibility. I feel like right now we have two good kickers combined in our total roster. To me, that's a good thing."
The veteran Folk has made 40 of his last 45 field goal attempts, while Nordin was inconsistent this summer. The Michigan product was 5-for-8 on field goals and 4-for-7 on extra points.
New England clearly likes Nordin and may be concerned with him getting scooped up by another team exposing him to waivers, and that's why he's on the active roster as of now.
One other elevation from the practice squad seems likely to be Brian Hoyer, as right now the Patriots have only Mac Jones at the quarterback position on the active roster.
These moves will take place Saturday.
