Keeping Jerod Mayo around may prove to be too big a challenge for the Patriots.
A few days after the Browns reportedly requested to interview him for their defensive coordinator role, Carolina has upped the ante. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Panthers want to interview him to be their next head coach — the first request of this kind for Mayo this offseason.

Of course, that doesn’t guarantee anything for Mayo, as much as he feels ready to take on this role and has been interviewed for head coaching positions elsewhere previously. But if a promotion isn’t in the cards for Mayo this offseason, it seems unlikely he’ll be in New England come fall; even then, that may not be enough.
