6 rings: Patriots vs Eagles preview with Rob Ninkovich
With Tom Brady weekend so close you can taste it, the Patriots took to the practice fields on Friday for their final prep session prior to Sunday. We’ll most of them did.
Here’s what stood out on Friday in Foxborough:
Attendance:
Absent: CB Jack Jones, QB Matt Corral, RB Rhamondre Stevenson
PUP: S Cody Davis, DE Trey Flowers
IR: WR Tyquan Thornton, OT Riley Reiff
Other Notes:
- After Jack Jones was limited at Wednesday’s practice and missed Thursday’s, The Athletic’s Jeff Howe reported that the cornerback is “expected to miss some time” with his hamstring injury. Head coach Bill Belichick followed this up on Friday by telling the media that the cornerback is going through further testing and his status for Sunday is up in the air.
- The Patriots named their six captain for the 2023-24 season on Friday. They are:
QB Mac Jones
ST Matthew Slater
C David Andrews
DL Deatrich Wise Jr.
LB Ja’Whaun Bentley
TE Hunter Henry
- It’s interesting that Corral wasn’t at practice given what Bill Belichick said about New England’s backup quarterback situation on Friday:
"That's a decision we'll have to kind of finalize here, the head coach told the media about whether Matt Corral or Bailey Zappe will serve as the backup on Sunday. “Bailey certainly has the advantage on experience, time in the system... we have a couple different options here so we'll see how it goes.”
- Given that running back Rhamondre Stevenson wasn’t on the injury report all week, I’m chipping Friday's absence up to rest/maintenance for the running back.
- UPDATE on Stevenson: According to MassLive's Karen Guregian, Stevenson missed Friday's practice due to a stomach bug and should be good to go on Sunday.
