6 rings: Breaking down the Patriots’ initial 53-man roster

The Patriots followed up a hectic roster day on Tuesday with another one on Wednesday, signing 15 players to their initial 2023 practice squad. The unit is highlighted by quarterbacks Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham who were waived by the team on Tuesday. Both went unclaimed, and subsequently signed back with New England on Wednesday afternoon.

Here's a look at the full practice squad:

QB Bailey Zappe
QB/WR Mailk Cunningham
WR Thyrick Pitts
OL Andrew Steuber
OL James Ferentz
S Joshuah Bledsoe
P Corliss Waitman
OL Kody Russey
LB Calvin Munson
LB Joe Giles-Harris
RB Ty Montgomery
TE Matt Sokol
RB Kevin Harris
LB Ronnie Perkins
TE Pharoah Brown

While plenty more moves are likely to come following IR designations, signings, etc., this is who will also practice with the team in addition to their initial 53-man active roster. Players on practice squads are allowed to be elevated to the game-day roster three times during the regular season before they are required to sign to the active roster.
