6 rings: Mike Kadlick talks Patriots free agency, NFL Draft on WEEI's Sunday Mass with Arcand
Trent Brown's second stint with the Patriots looks to officially be coming to an end.
The offensive tackle's contract voids on Monday and, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, New England will not be acting on it. They'll allow the deal to void without an extension.
Brown will officially become an unrestricted free agent at he beginning of the 2024 NFL New League Year on March 13, and the Patriots will carry a $2 million dead cap hit from Brown for the season.
The 30-year-old's final season in Foxborough was an interesting one, to say the least. Brown (when able) played like one of the better left tackles in football throughout his eight starts in 2023, but his health was a concern for the latter part of the campaign. He missed several practices down the stretch with an illness and wound up being a scratch (one healthy, one injury designated) for their final two games of the season.
"Like I've been saying since the beginning of the season," Brown told AtoZ Sports' Sophie Weller in December of his pending free agency, "I'll be where God wants me to be."
