The Red Sox have seemingly gotten the better of their trade deadline deal with the White Sox, thanks in large part to the performance of Reese McGuire.

The catcher is hitting .385 with an .881 OPS in 17 games, while the player he was dealt for - reliever Jake Diekman - has given up six runs on 11 hits over nine innings.

Now, the Red Sox are sweetening the deal even more.

The team announced it had acquired former college closer Taylor Broadway, a former sixth-round pick out of Ole Miss, from the White Sox as the player to be named later in the deal.

The 25-year-old Broadway will report to Double-A Portland, having most recently pitched for Chicago's Double-A team in Birmingham where he totaled a 5.11 ERA while striking out 74 and walking 14 in 49 1/3 innings.

In the right-handed hurler's final season at Mississippi, Broadway collected 16 saves.
