Daniel Jones is in concussion protocol and both Saquon Barkley and Kenny Golladay were getting their medical situations reviewed when Giants head coach Joe Judge spoke to the media on Monday afternoon, but Judge is hopeful “we dodged a couple of bullets there.”

They did not dodge a bullet with cornerback Rodarius Williams, however, as the team confirmed late Monday afternoon that Williams tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.

When it comes to the offensive players, on Saquon specifically, Judge said that X-rays came back “with better news than they could’ve” so the ream is relieved, and will see how Barkley’s ankle feels as he gets moving over the next few days. The same goes for Andrew Thomas – “we’re optimistic we can get him out there and get him rolling” – and even Kadarius Toney, who battled through an ankle injury before being ejected on Sunday.

“With KT, we’ll see where it comes out. I don’t think it’s anything significant, but we’ll see how it affects him this week,” Judge said. “He was going up and down a little bit with that ankle but he was fighting through it to get back in there. He’s a tough kid.”

That brings it back to Jones, who Judge is hopeful will be in play this weekend against the Rams, but he wouldn’t second-guess the effort Danny Dimes gave on the play that knocked him from the game.

“I’m not going to second-guess anything Daniel did. He’s a tough dude who tries to make every extra yard, and we have to give the players confidence to be out there and be aggressive,” Judge said. “He held onto the ball through the duration of the play, and he was going for the goal line trying to make a play for the team.”

That means sometimes things you don’t want or expect will happen, but all you can do is try to correct the reasons why.

“There are a lot of times quarterbacks tuck the ball and run, and there’s always risk to calculate,” Judge said. “We talk to Daniel about when is the right time to push for the extra yard versus sliding or going out of bounds, but on that play he was going for the goal line in a tough situation.
Daniel as a runner has been a strength for our team, and will continue to be.”

And regardless of who is in and who is out on Sunday, Judge echoed the next man up mentality for whomever suits up against the Rams.

“We never want anyone to get hurt, but in terms of being ready, we all go to practice every day to make sure everyone is ready, and when someone’s number is called, we expect them to produce,” Judge said. “That’s our next man up mentality, and we have faith in our guys.”
