Mets prospect Ronny Mauricio told reporters that he wants to make the big-league team this season, and he’s certainly making his case.

The 21-year-old launched another spring training home run on Monday afternoon, one day after blasting a 450-foot bomb, and not long after taking home an MVP award in the Dominican Winter League.

The early play of Mauricio has certainly caught the eye of Buck Showalter.

“There's a certain fluidity that he's gaining,” Showalter said. “You can see it in his confidence level. He's got the chance to be a good one.”

Mauricio has been thriving at the plate, and even though he booted a grounder at shortstop on Monday, Showalter likes what he sees from the hyped prospect’s defense.

“He’s a better defender, I can tell, than he was last year,” Showalter said. “Just his work habits, the pace to his game.”

Mauricio will likely get more chances to prove himself in the infield this spring, especially when the World Baseball Classic begins and more playing time is opened up with the Mets.
