Aaron Judge indeed seems to be trending towards seeing some spring training action in left field.
Prior to Saturday’s spring tilt with the Rays, Judge was taking reps out in left, fielding fly balls and practicing some positioning amid Aaron Boone’s comments to reporters that the MVP will likely get some game experience at the position some time next week.
Judge told reporters that he would be willing to shift over to left field, where he has never played in his big-league career, if it helps give the team some needed flexibility at DH and allow Giancarlo Stanton to play in right field, where there is much less ground to cover at Yankee Stadium due to the short porch.
Stanton’s health and lower body issues will continue to be a concern, but with other veterans on the team that could benefit from half days off, the Yanks would like to keep Stanton from being a full-time DH if possible. Judge has already shown a willingness to change positions to help the team, as he played plenty of center field last season to respectable results, and while he would be new to left field, he would have plenty of help to his left, where elite center fielder Harrison Bader will be leading the outfield.
