The Yankees have a shot at the first-ever American League “Utility” Gold Glove, and four others.

First baseman Anthony Rizzo, catcher Jose Trevino, and pitcher Jameson Taillon were named finalists for the American League Gold Glove Award at their respective positions on Thursday, with DJ LeMahieu named a finalist for the Gold Glove at the new utility position.

Also, Andrew Benintendi, who split the year between the Yankees and Royals, is a finalist in left field.

Rizzo’s competition is Minnesota’s Luis Arraez and Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr., while Trevino is against Oakland’s Sean Murphy and Seattle’s Cal Raleigh, and Benintendi is against Cleveland’s Steven Kwan and Brandon Marsh, who was with the Angels before being dealt to Philadelphia at the trade deadline.

Toronto’s Jose Berrios and Cleveland’s Shane Bieber are the fellow mound finalists, and LeMahieu is against Luis Rengifo of the Angels and Whit Merrifield, who was with Kansas City and Toronto, for the inaugural utility award.

LeMahieu played 47 games at third base, 41 games at second base, and 35 games at first base this season, and is looking for his fourth Gold Glove, having won NL Gold Gloves at second base in 2014, 2017, and 2018 while with the Rockies. This year he had a .986 fielding percentage at second, a .992 percentage at third, and a .996 percentage at first, excelling at all three spots.

Rizzo has won four NL Gold Gloves, the last in 2020, but oddly rated -3 defensive runs saved and -2 outs above average. Benintendi won a Gold Glove in 2021, while Trevino and Taillon are looking for their first.
