Gio: Josh Donaldson's salary is why Yankees won't give up on him

With Josh Donaldson batting just .127 after another hitless night on Thursday, how much longer will the Yankees wait to see if his slumping bat has anything left to give?

Gio says Donaldson’s paycheck is all you need to see to know that Donaldson isn’t going anywhere.

“Knowing the Yankees, they’re gonna keep sending him out there because they’re paying him a lot of money,” Gio said. “And that’s that.”

The 37-year-old is making $21 million this season, and Gio isn’t convinced that the Yankees would be willing to eat that kind of money. As Aaron Boone continues to search for positives in Donaldson’s at-bats, Gio sees them as nothing more than weak excuses for the team’s unwillingness to admit their mistake and move on.

“Look at his entire Yankee career,” Gio said. “He’s either stunk or been hurt. One chopper down the third base line is not gonna change that.”
