Allen, Bernard named captains for 2024 Bills season

Josh Allen and Terrel Bernard will lead the Bills this upcoming season, along with a 10-player leadership committee

Orchard Park N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills have announced their leadership group for the upcoming 2024 season.

Prior to Wednesday's practice in Orchard Park, Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced that quarterback Josh Allen and linebacker Terrel Bernard will serve as the two designated captains for the team.

McDermott adds there will be a leadership committee of 10 other players that will help lead the team along side Allen and Bernard.

"The leadership structure, if you will, is going to be different every year, just based on one team over another. And every team's different," said McDermott prior to practice. "Just felt strongly that the leadership structure we put into place this year is what this team calls for, and what it needs."

This is Year 6 for Allen serving as a team captain for the Bills. However, this is the first year he will be the lone offensive captain on the team.

Meanwhile, this will be Bernard's first season leading the team as captain after a breakout season at middle linebacker.

"He's a player that has certainly performed on the field, and I think it's really been fun to watch him develop as a leader," McDermott said of his third-year linebacker. "The work that he's done and the work that our staff has done with him - Will Greenberg, one of our assistant strength coaches, does a lot of work with Terrel and developing him and his leadership, and he's done a phenomenal job, those two working together. And his leadership is important, and everyone feels that around him."

The Bills will open their 2024 season on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.

We'll have live wall-to-wall coverage of the Bills and Cardinals on WGR starting at 7 a.m. ET on Sunday. Kickoff slated for 1 p.m. ET and can be heard with Chris Brown, Eric Wood and Sal Capaccio on the call of the game.
