Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills were able to earn a fourth win in-a-row and their second divisional win of the season on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium. A 20-12 win over the New York Jets helped Buffalo improve to 10-3 on the season, which further cemented their hold on the AFC East and remain atop the AFC standings.
The Bills received the opening kickoff but were not able to get anything going on their first drive. The rest of the first quarter was much of the same for both teams, as neither team could score a single point, trading three punts each.
The punting continued into the second quarter for both sides until the Bills were finally able to get the offense rolling.
Quarterback Josh Allen helped move the offense down the field with a few short passes, combined with short runs from running back Devin Singletary. The Bills finally punched through for the game's first score with 26 seconds to go in the first half, as Allen found tight end Dawson Knox with a 24-yard touchdown pass.
The Jets received the opening kickoff for the second half and wereable to get the ball rolling with quarterback Mike White converting three-consecutive big throws down the field. Rookie running back Zonovan Knight finished the drive off with a 13-yard touchdown run.
The Bills got the offensive spark they needed and continued to roll on their first drive of the second half. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs made his first big impact of the day on this drive with a 32-yard reception, which helped accelerate the Bills' drive downfield.
Allen helped put the Bills back on top with a five-yard touchdown run to make the score 14-7, Buffalo.
The Bills defense came up big on the next drive when defensive end Greg Rousseau forced a fumble that was recovered by lineman DaQuan Jones.
The Bills offense got to work quick, but only got 24 yards down the field, which led to a 38-yard field goal from kicker Tyler Bass.
The Jets had to punt the ball away on their following drive, and a 17-yard punt return from returner Nyheim Hines put the offense in great field position.
Buffalo was, once again, shut down on their next drive, only getting 21 yards, but advancing enough for Bass to make a 49-yard field goal to put the Bills up 20-7.
After a Jets punt pinned the Bills deep in their own end, Buffalo was unable to get anything going again. On an ensuing punt attempt, the Jets broke through with a block by defensive end Jermaine Johnson, which earned New York a safety after the ball rolled out of the back of the end zone.
Following the safety, the Jets received a free kick and the offense marched down the field in just under two minutes. After being stopped short of a touchdown, kicker Greg Zuerlein was called into action to make a 26-yard field goal attempt to make it a one score game.
After being stuffed for a three-and-out series, Buffalo was forced to punt the ball back to the Jets with only 45 seconds to go in the game.
However, the Bills defense came up big, slamming the door shut on the Jets on fourth down, allowing for the offense to kneel out the remaining game time to secure the victory.
