Josh Allen feels there's plenty of time to get ready for Week 1

The Bills quarterback likes what he's seen from rookie wideout Keon Coleman

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills still have one more preseason game to play on Saturday before they start worrying about the regular season opener on Sept. 8 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen feels there’s plenty of time, but also knows the film they see now isn’t necessarily what the team will see come Week 1.

"We’ll get through this weekend before we get into exactly what they’re going to do. And again, it’s Game 1. We can watch all the film that we want to watch from last year, but who knows what they’re going to do Week 1," said Allen following Tuesday's practice in Orchard Park. "We’ve got to understand that we can have a plan going into it, but if it’s completely different, then we’ve got to adjust in making in-game changes, which is something I think we do very well."

Allen is no longer even close to being the highest paid quarterback in the NFL due to all the new contracts given out around the league. However, it's something he doesn’t even think about it.

"Everyone is going to have their day, and I’m happy that everyone is getting what they’re worth. I think as the game progresses and guys keep getting paid, the market is the market. I’ve got no problem with where I’m at right now," Allen said. "I had my day a couple of years ago, and I’m sure someday I’ll have it again. But I think the main thing is the main thing, and it’s playing football to the best of my ability. Everything else will take care of itself."

Rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman is trying to build on, what’s been, a very good spring and summer. When you watch him, there are times where you wouldn’t even know he’s a rookie.

"His football IQ, the way he sees the field is pretty special for a rookie to do. It’s his body control, the way he can go up and catch balls," Allen said of the 21-year-old.

"He loves this game, and he loves being around his teammates. I’m very excited to see what he can do for this offense."

Coleman has two catches for 20 yards, and has been targeted six times in the first two preseason games. To be fair, Allen has only played one quarter of football. After that, Coleman really hasn’t had anyone who could get him the ball.

Despite that, Coleman still isn’t satisfied.

"It was so-so. It can always be better," said Coleman on Tuesday after practice. "But just getting out there and feeling the speed of the game, and playing and just doing what I know I can do."

Coleman seems like the type of player that does something every single day to make himself better. He says he’s better than he was when OTAs started this past spring.

"It’s been the speed of the game. Playing at the speed that everybody else is playing, and making the plays that they knew I could make," Coleman said.

The Florida State University product showed a lot of personality when he arrived in Buffalo for the first time with his yellow winter jacket and raiding the cookies at the food table in the press room. He says there’s a time and a place for all that, but it’s not now.

"I don’t really like talking about a jacket neither. It’s football season, and my mindset has been football ever since my first press conference. It’s football," Coleman noted. "I mean, you've got to see the personality, but I don’t want to focus on the jacket. I want to focus on learning the playbook and being able to play at the speed of the game."
