Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills emerged victorious over the New York Jets in their Week 11 matchup, snapping a two-game losing streak and exacting some revenge for an opening week loss on "Monday Night Football".
The Bills put out a great performance on both sides of the ball in their win over the Jets. The offense appeared to return to it's usual efficiency, and the defense came up with big plays despite mounting injuries.
However, Buffalo is now gearing up to face the best team, record-wise, in the NFL, and one of the most dynamic offenses in the league over the past few seasons this coming Sunday.
The Philadelphia Eagles have added a new wrinkle to their success over the last two seasons with the "tush push", or "Brotherly Shove" becoming almost an unstoppable force for most defenses. It's a play that Bills head coach Sean McDermott will have to find a way to defend in order to pull off an upset win in a hostile environment.
"I think more than anything, it comes down to force against force. That's some of the case with their situation in Philadelphia as well," said McDermott in his weekly appearance on the "Extra Point Show" on Friday. "The play that gets so celebrated, I guess you'd say, in Philadelphia is that 'tush push' play they use. It's really force on force, and it's really more of a rugby style play to begin with."
Aside from a dynamic offense, the Eagles' defense stacks up against most offenses, and has helped Philadelphia to its 9-1 record to start the year.
"They're very talented. They do a great job every year of putting a Super Bowl talented team on the field, and we have to defend it," said McDermott on WGR with Sal Capaccio. "I think D'Andre Swift has really rejuvenated his career, and then A.J. Brown, Jalen Hurts, they do a great job and they're explosive, they break tackles. Then defensively, the talent they have up-front, the way they've invested in their corners. They've got a very talented football team."
Meanwhile, McDermott highlighted the recent play of second-year running back James Cook, who tallied 73 yards on 17 carries, as well as 29 receiving yards and one touchdown against the Jets in Week 11.
"The way he started the week with intent, with purpose, to play that way, and he went out and they played that way," McDermott said. "This is a young player that I believe is having a really good season, and he's learning that in order to play that way, you've got to be consistent in practice every week. Not just every other week, but every week. That's all maturity and growth for James, as he continues to develop here."
The Bills and Eagles are slated to kick off this Sunday at 4:25 p.m. EST, and can be heard on WGR Sports Radio 550.
