McDermott: 'We really try and take care of the players'

Bills head coach Sean McDermott joined the "Extra Point Show" on Friday ahead of his team's matchup with the Dolphins this Sunday

Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Bills have returned to form following the bye week with a pair of wins over the Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs.

Th Bills are hoping to make it three-straight wins out of the bye when they next head to South Florida to face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.

Bills starting left tackle Dion Dawkins was named the NFLPA Community MVP for Week 10. While his play on the field protecting quarterback Josh Allen speaks itself, Bills head coach McDermott loves how players like Dawkins can be a role model off the field.

"We want to win games, there's no doubt about it. That's what we're here to do. Beyond that, there's a bigger purpose and a higher purpose for myself for our players, for our community, for our organization. That's to make an impact in our community," said McDermott on Friday during his weekly appearance on the "Extra Point Show" on WGR. "I'm extremely proud when I hear stories of guys like Dion and beyond making that impact, that positive impact in our community. And it's a real thing. We want to win, but that imprint, that footprint that we create lasts for a long time."

Looking at the Miami matchup, only two players have been confirmed out by McDermott, as pass rusher A.J. Epenesa and linebacker Shaq Thompson will not play Sunday.

As a whole, the injuries have piled up for this defense, but McDermott finds joy in a young player stepping up. He confirms we will see that again against the Dolphins.

"From a coach's standpoint and a teacher's standpoint, it's part of the great joys of coaching, teaching," McDermott said with Sal Capaccio. "It's seeing young people develop, and for the light to come on and to take an opportunity and make the most of it. Landon [Jackson] will have an opportunity this weekend, more than likely, to do that, and we continue the journey with the other key members, that are those young guys that you saw already for a couple games now. Max [Hairston], Jordan Hancock, the list goes on."
