Report: Bills fire safeties coach Jim Salgado

Orchard Park N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Buffalo Bills appear to be make their first coaching move of the offseason with the firing of safeties coach Jim Salgado, according to ESPN Bills beat reporter Alaina Getzenberg.

Salgado was hired to the Bills' coaching staff back in 2017 shorty after the hiring of head coach Sean McDermott. At the time, he was hired as the team's nickels coach before being promoted to the safeties coach this year.

The Bills were injured at the safety position this past season with Micah Hyde missing most of the year with a neck injury suffered in a Week 2 win over the Tennessee Titans. In addition, All-Pro safety Jordan Poyer was banged up for a majority of the year with a multitude of injuries, including an elbow, rib and knee injury all at different periods of time.

Not to mention the medical emergency with Damar Hamlin going into cardiac arrest back in Week 17 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Bills passing defense ranked, in a number of categories, in the top half of the NFL this past season. Buffalo finished the year 14th in pass completion percentage allowed (63.5%), ninth in yards allowed (3,433), and tied for the fifth-fewest touchdowns allowed (20).
