Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The short passing game got a long look during Tuesday's session of organized team activities (OTAs) for the Buffalo Bills.
Whether it was Josh Allen, Mitch Trubisky or Shane Buechele under center on Tuesday, Bills quarterbacks were often hitting pass-catchers in the shorter areas of the field, giving them opportunities to make plays after the catch.
RAC (run after catch) is something head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane have talked a lot about this offseason while re-constructing their roster, adding receiver Curtis Samuel via free agency and drafting Keon Coleman with their first selection of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Those receivers were just two of the many who got into the act, as the team worked under an overcast sky and cool temperatures just outside the ADPRO Sports Training Center in Orchard Park.
It wasn't just the wideouts, either.
Tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, as well as the running backs group saw plenty of targets go their way during the 11-on-11 portion of the session.
However, the play of the day came from the other side of the ball when safety Damar Hamlin stepped in front of a Josh Allen pass intended for one of the running backs down the seam. The fourth-year man picked it off and started going back the other way for big yardage.
Allen came right back on the next play, though, to hit a wide open Kincaid, who was crossing through the middle of the field and had plenty of room to turn upfield and run.
Also noteworthy was Tyler Bass drilling a 70-yard field goal with a healthy wind at his back. The defense was lined up, but not trying to block it. But the special teams unit was still going through their normal field goal operation and timing.
Not spotted at Tuesday's practice were defensive backs Rasul Douglas and Cam Lewis, defensive ends Von Miller and A.J. Epenesa, defensive tackle Ed Oliver and running back James Cook.
Offensive tackle Spencer Brown was back one the field in, what appeared to be, a limited capacity after missing last week's session that was open to the media. Defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, who wasn't there last Tuesday, was also back on the field.
The Bills will be back on the field for OTAs again on Wednesday and Thursday, but neither session is open to the media. The next practice the media will be allowed to attend will be next Tuesday, June 4.
