Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Sabres add to their goaltending room, signing Alexandar Georgiev to a one-year contract worth $825,000 on Thursday.
Georgiev has played nine years in the NHL spending time with the New York Rangers, the Colorado Avalanche, before being traded to the San Jose Sharks in 2024-25. Georgiev led the NHL twice in wins and was selected to the All-Star Game in 2024.
One of Georgiev's best seasons came in the 2022-23 season starting 62 games posting a 40-16-6 record with a .919 save percentage 2.53 goals against average and five shutouts. Georgiev would then post another season playing 63 games posting a 38-18-5 record.
Georgiev split the 2024-25 season with both Colorado and San Jose playing 49 games. He becomes the second goaltender the Sabres have signed via free agency signing Alex Lyon to a two-year contract in July. He now joins a goaltending group that includes Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, and Devon Levi including recently signed Scott Ratzlaff, and Topias Leinonen.
