Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - The Buffalo Sabres have made a late addition to their goaltending room this offseason, signing Alexandar Georgiev on Thursday to a one-year contract worth $825,000.
Georgiev has played parts of eight seasons in the NHL, spending time with the New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, and recently with the San Jose Sharks this past year.
In 303 career appearances, Georgiev has started 288 games, posting a 151-108-26 record, a 2.99 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.
After beginning his career mostly as a backup with the Rangers, Georgiev finally got his chance in a full-time starters role with the Avalanche.
In his first season as the new starter for the Avalanche in the 2022-23 campaign, Georgiev started 62 games, posting a 40-16-6 record with a .919 save percentage, 2.53 goals-against average and five shutouts. Georgiev then played 63 games the following season in Colorado, posting a 38-18-5 record.
Georgiev led the NHL in wins for both seasons, and was selected to the All-Star Game in 2024.
During the 2024-25 season, Georgiev split time with both Colorado and San Jose, playing 49 total games.
Georgiev is the second goaltender the Sabres have signed during free agency this offseason after signing Alex Lyon to a two-year contract in July.
He now joins a goaltending group within the organization that already includes Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Devon Levi, Lyon, Scott Ratzlaff and Topias Leinonen.
