Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) – Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato provided an injury update Tuesday morning regarding a number of his players while speaking on his weekly appearance on WGR with Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase.
Granato said Tuesday morning that forwards Alex Tuch and Jordan Greenway should miss around 7-to-10 days.
Tuch left Sunday’s game after grabbing his hamstring area while trying to chase down a Nashville Predators forward on a breakaway.
As for Greenway, he left Saturday’s game in Carolina after playing one period against the Hurricanes. Granato added that Greenway’s injury is going to nag him for a while.
With both players set to miss, at least, a week, the Sabres placed both Tuch and Greenway on Injured Reserve just before Tuesday's matchup with the Detroit Red Wings.
In another seven days or so, Granato felt that veteran forward Zemgus Girgensons would be in the "day-to-day" category. Girgensons is still dealing with a lower-body injury.
In addition, Granato said winger Jack Quinn isn’t ready to return to game action yet, but should be rejoining the team for practice at some point this week. Quinn continues to battle back from offseason surgery to repair a torn Achilles in June.
Perhaps the most notable update from Tuesday's appearance was that of center Tage Thompson. Granato said he would take part in practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, and it was a possibility the 26-year-old would play Thursday in Boston against the Bruins.
However, as it turns out, Thompson took part in the morning skate and was able to take normal line rushes, and even practice on Buffalo's top power play unit. Then after practice, Thompson declared himself ready to return to the lineup against the Red Wings.
Thompson has missed nine games with a hand injury, where Buffalo is 3-5-1 in those games.
