Report: Bills restructure Josh Allen's contract

Buffalo continues to try and create salary cap space ahead of the new league year on Wednesday

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550) - Ahead of the start of the new league year in the National Football League on Wednesday, the Buffalo Bills continue to work to free up more salary cap space.

Part of that process included restructuring the contract of quarterback Josh Allen, according to multiple reports, saving the Bills around $12 million on the salary cap. ESPN's Field Yates was the first to report the contract restructure.

Further reporting indicates the move converts $15.2 million of Allen's salary this season into a signing bonus. The Bills were projected to be $4 million over the salary cap before this restructure.

This comes after the 2024 NFL MVP signed a new six-year contract with the team worth $330 million.

This past year saw Allen taking a slight step back, in terms of production from his MVP season the year prior. The 29-year-old did put up his best completion rate this past season at 69.3%, throwing for 3,668 yards and 25 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He also accounted for 579 yards on the ground and an additional 14 touchdowns, but was also sacked 40 times.

The new league year for the NFL officially opens at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
