A Luzerne County woman has been sentenced to federal prison for orchestrating a wire fraud scheme that targeted a local church where she was employed. Gail Nossavage, of Harding, was handed a 15-minute prison term by U.S. District Judge Karoline Mehalchick in the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
Nossavage's conviction stems from her time as an administrative assistant for the First Baptist Church of Pittston. Between April 2020 and December 2021, she was entrusted with the church's financial operations, including the collection of donations and the management of bank deposits. Federal prosecutors established that she used this position of trust to divert church funds for her own personal use.
In addition to the prison time, the court ordered Nossavage to pay $184,724.68 in restitution to the First Baptist Church. Following her release from federal custody, she will be required to serve a three-year term of supervised release.
