DETROIT (WWJ) – A man is dead, two people are injured and several suspects are in custody after a pair of shootings downtown Detroit Saturday night.
A man was shot to death inside a store on Monroe Street between Beaubien and St. Antoine in the Greektown area around 8 p.m., according to Detroit police.
A man and woman have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Authorities have not released the victim’s name or age, but reports say he was an employee at the store. Police did not immediately identify the business.
Around an hour after that shooting, more shots rang out in the area of Atwater and Rivard, near the Detroit Riverwalk. A man and a woman were shot.
Authorities believe they sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
A man was taken into custody in relation to that shooting. Circumstances surrounding the shootings remain under investigation.
The downtown violence comes a day after four people were shot near Monroe and Randolph. One man was killed and three others were injured, including the suspect.
The officers saw a man armed with a handgun run into the parking structure. As they pursued him, he pointed a gun at one of the officers while trying to escape in a car being driven by someone else. Police fired a single shot at the man, and he was hit. He was later found at a local hospital and taken into custody.
Detroit police on Saturday night tweeted they would be enforcing the city’s curfew for minors.
“It is unlawful for a minor to be on a public street, sidewalk, playground, vacant lot, or other unsupervised public place,” during the curfew, officials said.
For minors age 15 and under, the curfew is in effect from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and it begins an hour later for 16- and 17-year-olds.
It was not clear whether anyone had been detained for breaking curfew.
