DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are at the scene of a mass shooting that has killed one person and injured four others on the city's east side Saturday morning, officials confirmed.
Around 10:45 a.m., Detroit police received a call of shots fired in the block of Saratoga, near Gratiot and 7 mile, a police spokesperson at the scene told reporters.
The official said police arrived to find one victim with a gunshot wound outside the residence, which she said was a known narcotics vacant location.
Officers then heard several people inside screaming and forced entry into the home, finding four other people with gunshot wounds.
The DPD spokeswoman said a male victim found inside was deceased.
The other victims were transported to a local hospital, where the official said two were in critical condition and two were in serious condition.
Earlier reports from local news outlets stated six people total were shot, but the official clarified there were five gunshot victims, one fatal and four non-fatal.
The ages of the victims range 35 to 76-years-old and were all fired on while in the home.
"It's very crazy," the official said. "What we have this point preliminarily is a possibly suspect that fled on foot westbound down Saratoga. We are still looking for additional information."
"...We're all tired of this," she added. "This is exhausting, This is the second mass shooting in Detroit with multiple victims in the span of a couple of weeks."
Police said they were still gathering information and could not confirm if the suspect arrived in a truck before open firing when questioned by reporters.
She said the investigation is ongoing and police were still working on finding out more details.
