HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (WWJ) – One person is dead and another is in serious condition after an SUV crashed into a fire truck in Highland Park Saturday night.

Michigan State Police say Highland Park Fire Trucks responded to a crash scene on westbound Davison Freeway near Oakland Street around 11 p.m. Saturday night.

As the trucks, which had their emergency lights on, were stopped and blocking part of the Davison and assisting two vehicles on the embankment, a vehicle slammed into one of them.

A 1996 Ford Explorer was headed west on the Davison when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the rear of one of the trucks, according to MSP.

Authorities say fire crews had to cut the driver out of the vehicle and performed CPR.

Police have not released any details about the second victim, but did say next of kin have been notified.

It was not clear what led to the crash or whether there were any injuries in the original crash that fire crews responded to.

Westbound Davison near Oakland was closed for several hours for the investigation.
