DETROIT (WWJ) – A 19-year-old Detroit man is facing first-degree murder and other charges for the robbery and shooting death of a 47-year-old Detroit man last week.
Marquise Javier Walker has been accused of robbing and shooting Arthur Gowens at a Citgo gas station near Wyoming Avenue and Joy Road on the city’s west side.
In addition to first-degree murder, he has been charged with one count of felony murder, one count of armed robbery, one count of carrying a concealed weapon and three counts of felony firearm.
It all unfolded around 5:45 p.m. on Friday, May 6, when Detroit police officers were called to the gas station. When they showed up, they found Gowens lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Gowens was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office alleges Walker robbed Gowens with a handgun, fired it and then took off running. He was arrested later the same day.
Walker was arraigned Monday in 36th District Court and remanded to jail. His next court appearance is set for May 24.
