TROY (WWJ) -- Two people were arrested after they fled the scene of a suspected drunken driving crash last week in Troy.

Troy Police said officers responded just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday to the area of Big Beaver Rd. and Livernois after a woman called 9-1-1 to report that she was injured in a crash.

The caller told police she was hurt when her airbag deployed in a crash with another vehicle, and that two men in the other car, a Chevy Malibu, had fled the scene on foot.

When officers arrived, they found the woman with injuries to her face.

Police were able to track down the Malibu driver, identified a 28-year-old Southfield man, along with his passenger, and both men were taken into custody.

At the Troy Police lock-up, officials said officers noted that the admitted driver’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and that he smelled like booze. A breathalyzer test showed he had a BAC (blood alcohol concentration) of .085% — which is over the legal limit for driving in Michigan.

Police got a search warrant, and a blood draw was completed by medical personnel.

The driver’s case was turned over to the Troy PD Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants once the blood results are returned, police said.

The passenger, a 31-year-old man, was issued a citation for Hinder and Obstruct Police.

No names were released.
