HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) -- A driver is behind bars Thursday morning after leading Hamtramck police on a chase and then crashing into two homes.
The car chase ended late Wednesday night on Norwalk Street near Conant Street when the driver crashed into the homes, leaving the people inside with a huge mess to clean up.
People living on that street said when the crash happened they thought a bomb went off.
One home was so badly damaged that the single mother and her four young children inside are wondering what to do next.
Drdeni Chowdeury said police told her that she may need to find a new place to live because of damage to the home's foundation. Her car was also damaged in the crash.
Chowdeury said she doesn't have car or home insurance, so she has set up a Gofundme page to help cover expenses and buy a car to get her family from place to place.
"The car was the only vehicle we had, and we were constantly putting money into repairing it before this incident," wrote Chowdeury on the Gofundme. "My kids need a car to go to school, to go shopping, to go to the doctors, and many other places and I desperately need it to go to work."
Chowdeury wrote that this incident was not at all what she expected and has only added to the "many issues" she has to take care of.
Police aren't saying why they were chasing the driver.
There weren't any injuries reported.
