FLINT TWP. (WWJ) – Police are urging Michiganders to use a designated driver if drinking is part of your holiday weekend plans.

The warning comes after two people were killed in a head-on, wrong-way crash in Flint Township Saturday night.

Authorities were called to the scene on northbound I-75 near Beecher around 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police officials believe the at-fault driver, a 43-year-old man, was under the influence of alcohol when he was driving south in the northbound lanes. He slammed head-on into a sedan, according to police.

A 24-year-old Flushing woman and a 31-year-old Mundy Township inside the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene. A 27-year-old Flushing resident driving the sedan is hospitalized in critical condition.

Authorities believe alcohol is to blame on the part of the at-fault driver, whose name has not been released. His condition was not disclosed.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to 810-600-3250.
