HOWELL TWP (WWJ) -- The Livingston County Sheriff's Office recovered a twice-stolen pickup truck after a deputy ran the vehicle's plates and took the driver into custody.

On Saturday, January 14, a Livingston County Sheriff's deputy was on patrol in Howell Township on I-96 when he decided to check the registration on a 2023 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

The pickup's license plate showed it had been stolen from the Detroit Police Department in December 2022. A GMC Envoy was also taken at that time.

As the deputy approached the vehicle to pull the driver over, the truck abruptly exited the freeway onto Highland Rd.

Officers conducted a high risk traffic stop and arrested the two people in the Dodge.

The driver -- a 26-year-old Detroit man -- admitted to knowing the vehicle was stolen. He remains in custody for receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle.

According to LCSO, the 2023 Ram appears to have been stolen from a manufacturer's lot in Sterling Heights at an unknown date.

This is the fourth stolen vehicle recovered in Livingston County in the past week.
