OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) -- A 22-year-old man is facing an open murder charge after allegedly killing his mother with a gunshot wound to the head and then shooting at random passing vehicles.
Along with open murder, George Michael Harry II was charged on Monday with five counts of attempted murder and six counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
The Troy man is being held without bond at the Oakland County Jail
The suspect reportedly shot his mother, 52, as she drove home from a Thanksgiving Eve family dinner near the Detroit Zoo, by the Pleasant Ridge and Royal Oak border.
Harry was a passenger in the rear seat when he allegedly fired from a 9 mm handgun, according to police.
Authorities said when the vehicle crashed and came to a stop in the middle of Woodward Avenue under the Interstate 696 interchange, Harry got out of the car and fired shots randomly at three other passing cars.
A 43-year-old Ferndale woman, who was in one of the cars that was shot at, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to the hospital. She has since been released.
Another car that was shot at had an infant inside, but nobody was hurt.
A motive for the shooting is not yet known.
Harry is expected to be arraigned by video on Tuesday before the 44th District Court Magistrate Donald Chisholm in Royal Oak.
