DETROIT (WWJ) – Yet another metro Detroit student is facing charges for making a fake school threat.

Wayne County Prosecutor announced a 15-year-old boy from Detroit Lions Academy in Detroit has been charged with one count of making an intentional threat to commit violence against a school, school employees or students.

The teen is the 39th student to be charged in Wayne County alone in a little more than two weeks since the deadly shooting at Oxford High School on Nov. 30. Officials say as of Thursday, 30 students in Macomb County and 17 in Oakland County have all been charged with making threats in the same time frame.

The student was given a $10,000 bond or 10% and is due back in court on Jan. 24.

Detroit Lions Academy is an alternative middle school on the city’s east side, offering students an opportunity to “get back on the path to success in order to reach high school graduation,” according to the school’s website.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office says juveniles do not receive adult sentences. Upon conviction, the judge will fashion a sentence considering the crime committed, and the rehabilitation of the juvenile offender.

Prosecutors and law enforcement officials across metro Detroit have been issuing warnings to students that they will face charges for making threats and encouraging parents to talk with their children about the seriousness of doing so.

Worthy told WWJ last week her office is taking all threats "very seriously" and there could be severe consequences for those who make threats.

“Whenever you make such a threat, it’s not fun, it’s not funny, it’s not a game,” Worthy told WWJ.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard spoke live on WWJ Tuesday night, encouraging parents to talk with their kids.
