NORTHVILLE (WWJ) - Authorities said charges are pending against five people on Saturday after flames broke out at the former site of the Northville State Regional Psychiatric Hospital on May 11.
Reports of smoke prompted emergency responses from the Northville Township Police and Fire departments to the area of Legacy Park on Seven Mile Road on Wednesday.
Emergency crews were able to narrow down the source of the smoke and found two buildings that police said were fully engulfed in flames.
As crews arrived on scene, five people were observed by police running from the area.
"Officers on scene conducted a preliminary investigation and subsequently took all five into custody and transported them to the Northville Township Police Department," authorities said.
After interviewing the suspects, the Detective Bureau concluded the fires were intentionally started and forwarded information to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Officer for review.
Charges against the five people are currently pending.
No further details were released and the names of the people arrested have been withheld at this time.
