(WWJ) -- The Queen of Soul is getting the respect she deserves!

In the latest version of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list, Aretha Franklin’s iconic hit “Respect” has taken the top spot.

Originally written by Otis Redding and recorded in 1965, Franklin cut her powerful version of the track on Valentine’s Day in 1967. It went on to become her first No. 1 hit, and launched her into superstardom.

Rolling Stone’s ‘Great Songs’ list, which was released on Wednesday, is compiled every year based on votes submitted by over 250 artists, journalists, and other music industry professionals.

Along with “Respect,” this year’s top five is rounded by Public Enemy “Fight the Power,” Sam Cooke “A Change is Gonna Come,” Bob Dylan “Like a Rolling Stone” and Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

Along with Franklin, several other Michigan artists also made this year's list, including the White Stripes "Seven Nation Army" (No. 36), Aaliyah "Are You That Somebody" (No. 238), Alice Cooper "School's Out" (No. 293), Bob Seger "Night Moves" (No. 301), Diana Ross "I'm Coming Out" (No. 385) and Lizzo "Truth Hurts" (No. 497).
