DETROIT (WWJ) -- Classic video game lovers now have a new place to get their fix in Detroit.
Barcade Detroit officially opens its doors in Midtown Monday, the ninth location for the franchise that calls itself the “original arcade bar.”
Barcade started in New York City back in 2004 and has opened other locations in NYC, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Connecticut and California.
Now they’re bringing the likes of Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Asteroids, Galaga, Tetris and dozens of other classic games to Detroit.
Located at 666 Selden Street, between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, Detroiters will be able to play a wide selection of more than 70 arcade and pinball games, while enjoying 20 rotating craft beer taps, and bar food.
The food menu will feature items like tater tots, nachos, burgers, chicken sandwiches deep fried Oreos and more, according to the Detroit News.
Barcade Detroit’s website has a full list of the games they have, ranging from the aforementioned classics, to off-the-wall titles like “Q-Bert Qollects Quarters,” and a nod to Detroit with the pinball machine called “Alice Cooper’s Nightmare Castle.”
Sports lovers will be happy to see classics like NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, Punchout and Daytona USA, among other sports games.
Barcade Detroit will be open daily 5 p.m. to midnight, with happy hour specials Monday-Friday, where patrons can get $1 off beer, wine and well drinks. The website says lunch specials are “coming soon.” You must be 21 years old to enter.
Barcade is also a certified Green Restaurant, focusing on the environmental effects of their business, from an emphasis on recycling and food composting, to using biodegradable products and reducing water and electricity.
The new gaming hotspot joins a couple of other arcade bars in Detroit, including Ready Player One near Greektown and Grand River Ballroom near Grand Circus Park.
