DETROIT (WWJ) -- After more than four hours, a barricaded gunman who shot another man in the arm surrendered peacefully to Detroit police.

The standoff began around 4:30 a.m., at the residence on Winthrop St., in the area of I-96 and Greenfield, located near the popular O'Shea Park.

Authorities say a man in his 40s shot a man in his 30s in the arm, then barricaded himself inside the house. Investigators are still working to determine what lead up to the shooting, but they believe the pair were involved in some kind of argument.

WWJ's Charlie Langton was on the scene Monday morning, where a Special Response Team (SRT) from the Detroit Police Department had surrounded the home "with guns drawn" and set up a three-block perimeter.

Residents were asked to shelter in place until the situation could be resolved.

Shortly before 9 a.m., DPD reported that the suspect had surrendered without further incident.

According to DPD Captain Robert Mitchell, negotiators were able to talk the gunman down and get everyone out of the house safely. The injured man was taken to a local hospital and was said to be in stable condition.

At this time, it is still unclear how many people were in the residence, how the situation developed or what charges will be brought against the suspect.
