WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Waterford Township Police are investigating after a resident called 911 to report a grim discovery, not far from their lakefront home.
Just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday, police said the resident spotted what appeared to be a body on Williams Lake, floating just offshore from their property on Brightwood Ct., in a neighborhood north of Highland Rd., near Williams Lake Rd.
Police arrived on the scene to find a man in his 20s in the about 15 feet offshore, in four feet of water.
When officer went into the water and pulled the man to shore, officials said it was immediately apparent that he was deceased.
How the man died is still unknown at this time.
The Oakland County Medical Examiner was contacted to perform an autopsy.
While police have been able to identify the man, they're not releasing his name until his family can be located and notified.
Waterford Police are working with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office on the ongoing investigation.
