(WWJ) The search for a young mom who disappeared two weeks ago in Detroit has come to a tragic end.
Detroit Police over the weekend called on the public for tips in the case of 20-year-old Brandy Nelson.
According to investigators, she was last seen alive at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16., leaving her home in the 5500 block of Drexel, in the area of Dickerson and Chandler Park.
Her family, who said Nelson lives with mental illness, was very concerned about her well-being, police said.
Following a search involving family and friends, a body was found late Tuesday near a garage off Drexel, on the city's east side.
While police did not immediately identify the remans as that of the missing woman, family members told FOX 2 that the body was Nelson's.
As the investigation continues, Detroit Police are treating the case as a homicide, although they have not said how they believe the young woman died.
Family members told the TV station that they feared Nelson was being held against her will prior to her death, that she was scared, and that she'd gotten hold of a phone and called her mother for help.
There have been no arrests in the case, and so far no suspects have been named or described.
WWJ has calls out to authorities for the latest information.
