(WWJ) - Officials said a body recovered from a park in Detroit is believed to be a retired Detroit Police officer who went missing nearly 14 days ago.
“We don’t know. We’re going to let the medical examiner do their evaluation and see if we can identify the body that we found. Sadly, a lot of things are pointing to that may in fact be our retired police officer,” Detroit Police Chief James White said via WXYZ while giving a news conference on Thursday afternoon.
The body was discovered in Stoepel Park.
Authorities have been searching for Stefon Hodo, 41 — who served in the Detroit Police Department from 2005 to 2013 — after a shooting incident on June 30 that was captured on camera.
Hodo's gun and car were stolen by a neighbor who was later arrested for firing shots into a home at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, in the 15300 block of Ferguson on the city's west side, police said.
The suspect left the scene before allegedly returning around 2:30 p.m. to open fire at the house a second time.
A neighbor told WXYZ that the suspected shooter and Hodo weren't close and were involved in a recent dispute.
It only added to mounting concerns Detroit police had regarding Hodo's disappearance. As they searched, police said they were worried for his well-being.
