
BRIGHTON, Mich. (WWJ) -- A Brighton teenager accused of killing his father, who was a Canton police officer, has been arraigned on murder charges.
The Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office says 18-year-old Hayden Jagst is charged with open murder, a felony punishable by up to life in prison, for allegedly shooting Edward Jagst on June 21.

The man’s son fled the scene, before police were able to call him on the phone and convince him to come back to Brighton and turn himself in.
Jagst is also facing charges of carrying a firearm with unlawful intent, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.
He is being held without bond, with a probable cause hearing set for July 6.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive in the case, but are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Detective Mike Arntz with the Brighton City Police Department at (810) 227-2700.
"The Brighton City Police Department is to be commended for leading this investigation, as well as Michigan State Police, Green Oak Police Department and Livingston County Sheriff's Department, who provided assistance with the investigation,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
Edward Jagst was a 21-year veteran with the Canton Police Department and was an active patrol officer who participated in several special units including Evidence Technician, Training Instructor, Bicycle Unit, and as a Criminal Investigations Detective.
"Officer Jagst was a remarkable man who was strong in his faith, and was a truly loving husband and father,” said Chad Baugh, Canton Police Department Deputy Director. "He was a shining example of love and service, and our Canton Police family, past and present, consider ourselves fortunate to have known him. Our hearts go out to the Jagst family at this time of tragedy."
