CLARKSTON (WWJ) – Buddy’s Pizza is giving back to the community as it opens a brand new location in northern Oakland County.
The creators of the original Detroit style pizza opened a new shop along Sashabaw Road in Clarkston on Monday, and the restaurant is donating all of the proceeds from the grand opening to Lighthouse of Oakland County and the Clarkston Community School District’s therapy dog program.
Wes Pikula, Chief Brand Officer for Buddy’s, tells WWJ giving back is something Buddy’s does every time they open a new location.
“Hunger, poverty, that never goes away. And Lighthouse does an amazing job in Oakland County. So when Buddy’s locates a new store – and this is our 21st location – a community partner, and we give back the day’s sales to those charities. It’s always been part of Buddy’s.”
Lighthouse of Oakland County has been part of the community for 50 years, helping low-income families not only get fed, but move forward.
“A lot of people think, well, Oakland County, there’s a lot of money,” Pikula said. “But there’s also a lot of hunger and a lot of homeless. And what Lighthouse does, it provides an avenue for people to get out of that cycle. So not only do they feed them for that day, but they also help with their progress to get out of that environment. They do great work.”
Lighthouse’s Chief Development Officer, Russ Russell, says Buddy’s community involvement doesn’t go unnoticed – in fact, they’re “at the top of the list of people giving back.”
“For me, it’s the best pizza in town. In fact, for the holiday season, we gave everyone a certificate to Buddy’s,” Russell said. “But what Buddy’s means to the community is that they understand what it means to give back.”
The new location will be open 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., seven days a week.
