
DETROIT (WWJ) — Eminem, the Big Three, White Stripes, the Coney Dog, Motown — there are a handful of things that can be called "quintessentially Detroit." But there is a new contender on the list: Detroit-style pizza.
A survey last year by Anytimeestimate.com ranked Detroit as the Best Pizza City in the U.S. taking into account price, Google searches and number of pizzerias. And the writers of this post have to agree; the Motor City has some great pizza!
In fact, it's become such a hit, June 23 is now known as National Detroit-Style Pizza Day.


With a crisp, focaccia-like crust, savory pepperoni pressed into the dough and frico cheese flowing all the way to the ends of the pan, the absolute king of all pies is the Detroit-style pizza.
But exactly is this type of pizza-perfection that's been sweeping across North America to places like Brooklyn and Mexico City?
