CANTON TWP. (WWJ) -- A Metro Detroit man could spend the rest of his life in prison after he was convicted in a horrific attack on his wife and daughter.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced Tuesday that 47-year-old Oswald John Talent has been sentenced to up to 50 years behind bars in connection with the domestic assault at the family's home a little over two years ago, during Michigan's stay-at-home order due to COVID-19.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on March 30, 2020, police responded to a domestic violence call in the 7300 block of Stonebrook Drive in Canton Township to find the 44-year-old victim in the driveway of the house with cuts to her face and body. The second victim, Talent's 8-year-old daughter, was found with a bump on her head and scrapes on her body.

An investigation, authorities said, found that Talent had caused the lacerations to his wife’s face with a table saw, and that he had slammed the child into the pavement before dragging her up the driveway by her hair.

The victims were taken to a hospital, and Talent — who fled the scene on foot — was tracked by police to nearby field, caught and arrested. The couple's two other children, ages 4 and 6, were not hurt.

Talent was charged in April of 2020 with Assault with Intent to Murder, Torture, Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm and Third-Degree Child Abuse.

On Tuesday, Worthy said Talent was sentenced to 28 to 50 years for Assault with Intent to Murder, 28 to 50 years for Torture, 10 to 20 years for Assault with Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, and two to four years for Third-Degree Child Abuse. The sentenced are to be served concurrently.
