Vehicle erupts in flames in Grosse Pointe Farms after crashing into post office

Authorities are trying to determine what caused a fiery crash Saturday morning after a vehicle struck an over 100-year-old postal building and bust into flames in Wayne County.

GROSSE POINTE FARMS (WWJ) - Authorities are trying to determine what caused a fiery crash Saturday morning after a vehicle struck a postal building and bust into flames in Wayne County.

Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety said the crash occurred in the area of Mack and East Warren at the Grosse Pointe Farms Post Office -- authorities are currently on scene investigating.

There are no reports of serious injuries at this time, but authorities have asked the public to steer clear of the area until further notice.

Dr. Leslie Wagner, President of the Grosse Pointe Historical Society expressed to her disbelief to WWJ after she witnessed the damaged herself.

"In 1876, we had our first post office, but today in Grosse Pointe Farms, there is white four-door car crashed completely into the side of the wall of our post office there," Wagner said.

Wagner later clarified to WWJ that the post office that was struck is a modern construction.

She told WWJ she saw multiple squad cars, a fire truck, "drama and crime tape" as she drove past the scene.

Authorities warned postal service may be delayed.
