DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are investigating after a car was shot at on the Southfield Freeway.

Police say it happened at about 9:35 p.m. Thursday on the southbound Southfield Freeway near W. Warren.

The victim told MSP that he was driving home from work in Plymouth when he noticed a car tailgating him near Joy Road.

The other car then pulled up next to him and the two drivers exchanged words, officials say.

The victim then told police that he sped up and that's when he heard a bang.

Police say he then exited at Michigan Avenue, while the other vehicle continued southbound.

When the victim stopped, police say he discovered a bullet hole in his front passenger side door and fragments inside.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
