CLINTON TWP (WWJ) -- A Macomb County high school sent students home Monday morning "out of an abundance of caution" after one teen reported receiving a threat from a phone number with a Florida area code.
Just before 8:30 a.m., WWJ became aware of a notice sent to parents of Chippewa Valley High School students, saying that classes would be dismissed early after a threat was made to a student.
A similar post on the Chippewa Valley Schools Facebook page stated that all staff and students were safe and that all other schools would be in session for the day.
Clinton police are looking into the unspecified threat -- which came from a Florida phone number.
WWJ's Charlie Langton reported live from the high school, where the Clinton Township Police Department was directing traffic and ensuring the safe dismissal of students from the building.
The school district thanked parents and students for their trust and support and promised to follow up with more information.
