
WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - Troopers said they have apprehended one Detroit man after he allegedly shot and killed a business shop owner on Woodward Ave. Friday evening before fleeing on foot, prompting a massive search response.
Michigan State Police announced the 53-year-old man's arrest in connection to the homicide just before 7 p.m. Saturday night. Authorities spent over four hours searching for the suspect on Friday evening, deploying police dogs and air assistance.
MSP said the Second District Fugitive team arrested the suspect and he is now lodged; detectives have submitted their investigators report to the protector and charges are pending review.
The names of the suspect and the victim have not been released by authorities and no other information was made available.
MSP Special Investigation Section Detectives were first requested by Highland Park Police at the scene of the fatal at 13933 Woodward Ave around 5 p.m. on Friday.
According to investigators, the male suspect entered entered a check cashing business and spoke with the owner, a 54-year-old man from West Bloomfield. An altercation occurred shortly after and the suspect shot the owner.
Authorities said the shop owner died on scene as a result of his injuries; the man's next of kin has been notified.
The suspect took off on foot and was seen by witnesses heading northwest. Troopers with assistance from K9 units and the department's helicopter, Trooper 3, were called in to assist with the search.
Woodward Ave. was closed in both directions for a few hours while troopers canvased the area. Investigators spent the overnight hours gathering evidence, reviewing video and looking for tips from the public.
