DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit Police say a gunman sought in the slaying of an employee at the Normandie Hotel is dead.

After putting out a photo of 25-year-old Jmar Tubbs, and seeking tips to track him down, the DPD said Tuesday morning that he'd been located.

Later, police sent an update saying Tubbs "took his own life" after coming in contact with officers on Monday in the 12400 block of Lansdowne, near Beaconsfield and Moross.

Exactly what happened during the suspect's encounter with the cops is unclear, and police said no further comments will be made at this time.

At around 11:30 a.m. Monday, a DPD Special Response team surrounded the hotel, on Woodward Ave., between Chicago Blvd. and the Davison Fwy. Police said one man had shot another man inside the hotel, and they were looking for the shooter.

After searching the building floor-by-floor, police expanded their search to the surrounding area.

Police have not said what led to the shooting, or to Tubbs' location.

The victim's name has not yet been released.
