Civilian shot in stomach during Downriver auxiliary police training exercise, says MSP

TAYLOR (WWJ) -- A civilian is in the hospital following an apparent training accident involving auxiliary officers in Taylor.

Michigan State Police detectives said they were called out to Heritage Park around 5 p.m. Sunday where Taylor auxiliary officers were conducting training for "vehicle takedowns."

Officials stated one of the officers fired a round from his service weapon, striking a civilian role-player in the stomach.

The victim is said to be in stable condition at a nearby hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

Detectives are currently working to determine how the shooting occurred, but they're calling it an "accidental discharge.

Police are interviewing all witnesses, as the investigation continues.
